The technology universe is reinventing itself once again. The utility based computing model is changing how computing is perceived, managed and implemented. But the change different this time.

Though the utility model is having a huge impact on the management and cost structure of information technologies I believe the biggest impact will be realized by business and organizational leadership as they begin to understand, adopt and embrace the model for strategic differentiation. This time it won’t only be about making technology a more efficient servant to the business rather there is a real opportunity to change and impact the business in ways that simply were not possible before. New business models, new service delivery models, new channels, new product and revenue opportunities, new customer and constituent engagement models and opportunities, new expectations, new competitors.
